When the order is polyester, the Epson F570 sublimation printer can be the fastest route for a small rush. In March 2024, 36 hours before a product launch, we took an order for 90 polyester tote bags. A screen printer could not fit us in. The F570 handled the transfer prints, and a heat press did the rest. The totes went to the event venue at noon the next day.
But watch the material. Sublimation is not DTF. The dye becomes a gas and bonds to polyester or coated surfaces. It is not designed for cotton, and it cannot print white ink. If a customer asks for dark or cotton tees, the F570 is the wrong tool unless you are producing a polyester applique patch.
Honestly, it took me about three years and 150 rush orders to understand that no printer is 'best.' There are only printers that match this order. The F570 is a good match for polyester blanks, soft signage, banners, and coated products. For cotton t-shirts, you need a different process.

The DTF printer process, in short: print a mirrored CMYK plus white design onto PET transfer film, apply adhesive powder, shake off the excess, cure the powder, and press the transfer onto the garment. It sounds simple, and it is, until you do it on a deadline.
What first-time buyers miss is the floor setup. You need not only a printer; you also need a powder shaker, curing heat, a way to cut film cleanly, and a heat press. The printing part might take minutes, but the powder must be spread evenly or the transfer will fail. I have stood next to a pile of rejected shirts because a rushed operator skipped the curing step. That lesson was learned the hard way.
If the garment is cotton and the quantity is small, DTF is often a better route than ordering screens. If the garment is polyester and you already have a sublimation press, a sublimation transfer can be faster. Choose by fabric before you choose by printer.

Dye-sublimation and DTF require special ink sets and, for DTF, a white ink channel. The 8850 is configured for aqueous office inks. Worse, forcing third-party or converted inks through the printhead can clog it and cost more than the printer is worth.
Use the 8850 for printing a quick PDF proof or a client sign-off. Leave production to a printer built for transfer ink, heat, and media handling. This answer disappoints a lot of buyers, but so does a wasted morning.

UV flatbed printers print on rigid materials like acrylic, foam board, metal, and wood. A new UV printer can produce those pieces without a separate drying time. It also includes floor space, exhaust, UV ink shelf life, maintenance, and the hours spent dialing in color profiles.
From the outside, buying a new UV printer looks cheaper than paying a sign shop $800 in rush fees. The reality is different. If a printed piece must be in a client's hands by Friday, the file should be approved Monday. If someone promises impossible speed, ask how they will deliver and what happens if they miss it.
After 200-plus rush jobs, I keep a 48-hour buffer even when the customer swears it is urgent. The buffer has saved more orders than any printer upgrade. Hardware matters; matching the printer to the fabric and leaving time for the boring details matters more.
